Snell SA2015 certified auto racing helmets are held to a high standard for safety and protection. The Snell Foundation has set a standard in safety requirements when it comes to most classes of auto and motorcycle racing.
The Snell Memorial Foundation (SMF) has been setting standards for auto racing helmets since 1957. SA = Special Application.
Helmets with the SA rating are annually tested to meet or exceed SA standards. The SMF releases new standards every 5 years for SA helmets, which is indicated in the rating as SA2010, SA2015, SA2020 etc. Helmets with SA ratings are generally available by helmet manufacturers early the following year once a new standard is released by Snell.
For many auto racing sanctions including IHRA, NHRA, and SCCA, SA helmets within two standard releases are accepted for most racing classes.
Snell SA helmets are intended for:
Dirt track racing
Other auto racing applications
Where To Find The Snell Certification
Snell certification labels are found attached to the inside of the helmet between the padded liner, and EPS liner. You may need to partially detach the padding from your helmet to locate the Snell sticker. In order for a helmet to be Snell certified, this label must be present.
